What changed in the current exam cycle

  • Paper SAT with separate Reading, Writing and Language, and Math (calculator / no-calculator) sections was replaced by the Digital SAT Suite.
  • Scores still combine to 400–1600, but only two section scores are reported: Reading and Writing and Math.
  • Each section uses two adaptive modules; Module 2 difficulty depends on Module 1 performance.
  • Reading and Writing uses short passages with one question each; Math allows a built-in calculator throughout.
  • College Board score reports also show performance across eight content domains inside the two sections.

High-yield facts (commonly tested)

  • Official scoring is two axes — Reading and Writing and Math — not a single blended percentage alone.
  • Total score = Reading and Writing section score + Math section score (each 200–800).
  • Content domains (four in RW, four in Math) appear on the score report for skills insight but are not separate section scores.
  • Unanswered questions hurt — pacing to finish each module matters.
  • Bluebook practice tests from College Board remain the closest full-length adaptive simulation.
  • SAT scores are typically valid for five years for college applications (verify school policies).
